SACOP Resettlement Development Program was an off-shoot of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. It is in direct response to the problem of massive evacuation of residents from barangays severely affected by lahar flows and subsequent prolonged stay in evacuation centers. The program created a venue for calamity survivors to eventually own a house and lot in a safe area and environment. Aside from the development of the site and construction of core houses in 100m2 lots, the program includes the assimilation of the new community to the host, the organization of the homeowners association and formation of the resettled families into a cohesive community, and the provision of easy payment scheme to a maximum term of 30 years.
SACOP developed and still manages the archdiocese’s three resettlement communities – the Promised Land in Calibutbut, Bacolor, Mary Land in Sapang Biabas, Mabalacat and Wenceslao Village in San Roque Dau I, Lubao. It was also given proprietary rights and administration to Buensuceso Ville and Villa Arenas in Buensuceso and Arenas, Arayat respectively, resettlements previously managed by the Corporate Network for Disaster Response (CNDR).
A total of 1574 families are now residing in these resettlement communities.
